When you are trying to activate MS Office you should be in the activation wizard and it will tell you you can either activate through the online process or by telephone. If it denies you telling you it has been activated too many times, you can change the activation process to telephone and call the number it provides you, it will ask you to verify how many times this copy of office was installed and if you verify it correctly it will activate your software.

Michael J Myers. When you download Office Pro from Microsoft TechNet, you use their temporary product key for a day trial. If you then purchase a copy of Office Pro elsewhere, and get a valid product key, is it possible to enter this new key onto the computer, instead of fully removing and then re-installing Office Pro?

I realize that the Product Key is valid only for the specified version of Office. Are all versions of Office Professional alike, regardless of whether they come from the TechNet download site, or from downloading the software at “www.

Apparently for Technet, you try out the software, then click on a link to buy it, and somehow it will convert your trial copy into a full copy. When you order Office Pro, you can also be shipped a single piece of paper, with the Product Key and the download link. If the version of Office is not the same, that answers this question.

Let me rephrase it: 1 – You go to TechNet and download and install a day trial of Office Professional , using the Product Key as provided from Technet. Given that scenario, what should someone do next?

I no longer need the answer; I’m up and running, having removed the trial version and installed it again, downloading from office. I’m still curious as to whether I could have simply changed the Product Key, and all would have been well.

In reply to Michael J Myers’s post on May 26, My previous answer stands in the situation you clarified. You could have used your new “full” product key to activate the running trial. The download link you got with the key assumes you DON’T have a trial installed, or that you want to get a copy of the installer, or that the trial you have is different than the product you bought. Hint 2: WRITE down the Product Key and keep it in a safe place s that you can easily find it when you need it to reinstall in the futrue.

And you WILL need it at some point! Thanks again – I think I did what you suggested. For record keeping, I have a photograph of the Product Key on the label, and the original should be in the mail to me in the next few days, if it’s not already in the mail, so I’ll file them away as I usually do a filing cabinet full of pendaflex folders, labeled with what’s in them.

I assume something will fail though, as the Product Key has now already been used – if I need to move to a new PC, I guess I’ll need to call Microsoft about that. This is for earlier versions of Office – are you sure it works the same with Office Pro? The CD Explorer window appears. Double-click Setup. This procedure starts the Setup program of the trial version of the suite or program in Maintenance mode.

The installation file you download should allow the product key to work. In reply to Rohn’s post on September 14, Heck, I can’t even get the “free trial” to run – never got a key or “whatever” to get it to run. Wasted the whole day on it, trying to think of reasons why I would ever actually BUY this monstrosity.
